Assess an Opt-In List as a Maintained Business Resource
A contact collection can support useful business work when its information and permissions remain understandable. Its value is not established by a raw row count or an assumed resale price. Review the resource in the context of its intended use.
Define the usable portion
Identify which records satisfy the actual selection and required evidence. Keep duplicates, exclusions and unresolved cases visible. A total can describe the stored collection while a different count describes the records suitable for one programme.
Review the maintenance burden
Consider update work, status changes, access controls and connected systems. An unmanaged file can become harder to use as its history disappears. Include the effort needed to keep important information interpretable rather than focusing only on acquisition cost.
Connect use to outcomes carefully
Compare the resource’s contribution with relevant programme outcomes and costs. Keep attribution limits explicit. A successful campaign does not prove that the same records will suit a different sender, offer or time.
Plan continuity
Document ownership, field definitions and evidence locations. Restrict access and preserve necessary records under the retention process. Treat the list as a maintained resource supporting defined work, not as unlimited permission or a promise of future income.
