Read a Social Campaign Case Study Before Copying the Tactic

A campaign case study can explain a useful idea without proving that the same tactic will work elsewhere. Read the objective, execution and evidence separately. A memorable creative asset is only one part of the business result.

Find the original account of the work

Look for a named brand, publisher or agency and the period involved. Distinguish the original evidence from later summaries. If a result cannot be traced, do not repeat it as an independently confirmed fact.

Check what was actually measured

Identify the denominator, reporting window and whether the outcome was reach, engagement, sales or something else. Inspect omitted costs and attribution assumptions. A percentage increase without a baseline can be difficult to interpret.

Compare the conditions

Review audience, distribution, existing brand awareness and operational support. Identify which parts your business could reproduce. Avoid copying a campaign’s emotional or cultural reference without considering whether the audience would understand it in the same way.

Borrow a testable principle

Translate the useful insight into a small question for your own campaign. Define the offer, destination and outcome before production. Keep the new result separate from the original case so an illustration does not become an unsupported claim about your customers.
