Phone Numbers in eBay Listings: Use the Supported Communication Route

eBay’s current policies restrict sharing contact information and moving transactions outside its system. Do not assume that putting a phone number in a listing is an acceptable way to redirect a purchase. Use the platform’s supported communication route.

Review the actual policy

Read the current member-to-member contact policy and the off-platform buying and selling policy. Apply them to the purpose and stage of the interaction. A number placed in an image or description still communicates contact information.

Keep transaction communication traceable

Use the appropriate eBay message and order process for questions about an item. Retain the relevant transaction context. Moving a conversation into an unrelated channel can make it harder to review what was agreed if an issue later arises.

Use official support for account issues

Open eBay Help from the established site and choose the route matching the problem. Do not trust an unexpected caller merely because they know a listing title. Never give a stranger an account security code to obtain supposed support.

Correct an inappropriate instruction

Review listing text, images and saved messages through the authorised account. Remove directions that conflict with the applicable policy. Latest Mailing Database does not authorise contact sharing on eBay, provide access to member accounts or make a marketing file a substitute for platform support.
