The US National Do Not Call Phone Number and When to Use It

The FTC lists 1-888-382-1222 for the US National Do Not Call Registry. Use the official instructions and call from the number concerned. Registration is free; a commercial data supplier is not needed to enrol your own number.

Decide which action is needed

Identify whether you want to register or verify the number. A report about a particular call is a separate action. Keep the intended task clear before following a menu or entering information on a website.

Check the calling line

If the device has several lines, confirm which one is placing the call. Do not assume a household’s separate numbers share one registration. Follow the service’s current instructions for the exact number you intend to manage.

Retain the result privately

Keep any relevant completion or verification information with the date. Do not publish the full number or account details in an open support discussion. A paid removal offer should not replace the official consumer service.

Use other controls for other problems

Registration does not physically block all incoming calls or remove a public directory entry. Consult appropriate blocking, correction or complaint routes for those tasks. A later unwanted call needs its own evidence rather than an assumption that registration never completed.
