How to Select B2B Contacts by Job Title and Function
Job-title filtering is a starting point for finding a relevant business responsibility. The same title can describe different work across organisations, and the same function can have several titles. Define the responsibility you need before deciding which title strings to include.
Write the business task
Identify whether the conversation concerns technical evaluation, day-to-day operation, budget approval or another function. Describe the department and level of responsibility needed. A broad executive selection may miss the person who actually understands the issue.
Build and review title variants
List relevant title forms, abbreviations and local-language variants where appropriate. Review a sample of inclusions and exclusions. A keyword can appear inside an unrelated title, while a suitable contact may use an unexpected name for the function. Keep the rule understandable enough for another researcher to inspect.
Add company context
Check organisation size, industry and operating model where they affect responsibility. In a small business, several tasks may sit with one person; a larger company may distribute them across departments or locations. Keep a researched role suggestion separate from responsibility confirmed in a conversation.
Connect the selection to a next action
Retain the source, review date and uncertainty with the record. Assess communication eligibility and previous account history separately. Salesforce supports configurable lead fields and assignment controls; use them to route by meaningful responsibility instead of treating a senior title as proof of authority, interest or an active purchase.
