A 2004–2014 Spam-Domain List Is Not a Current Blocklist

A domain list collected between 2004 and 2014 cannot establish present reputation. Domains, infrastructure and ownership can change. Keep the historical record separate from the current evidence needed to investigate a message or operate a filter.

Identify what the list measured

Determine whether an entry was an IP address, domain or another identifier and what event justified inclusion. A heading alone may not explain the collection method. Do not treat a long unannotated list as a verified record of every entry’s current behaviour.

Use current official lookup information

Spamhaus provides a reputation checker and describes its current blocklists. Review the relevant identifier through the appropriate documented route. An old match is a reason to investigate, not proof that the same listing remains active.

Record the present decision

Keep the lookup date, result and relevant message evidence with any filtering action. Distinguish a temporary service response from a persistent policy choice. Avoid turning an unexplained historical spreadsheet into an indefinite organisation-wide block.

Keep monitoring and correction possible

Give the responsible team a way to review false positives and changed conditions. Latest Mailing Database does not certify the old list as current threat intelligence or guarantee delivery from its absence. This guide does not reproduce the obsolete entries as a recommended filter.
