Use a Company Phone Number as a Reference Only with Agreement
A company phone number is not a reference by itself. If a form asks for a professional or business reference, identify a person or authorised department that has agreed to respond and can explain the relevant relationship.
Clarify what the form requests
Distinguish employment verification, a professional reference and a supplier reference. Each may require a different contact. A general switchboard can route a call but may not be able to provide the information the requester expects.
Ask before sharing the details
Confirm the person is willing to act as the reference and which business contact route they prefer. Explain the relevant relationship and likely enquiry. Do not invent permission or list a stranger from a purchased database as someone who endorses you.
Check the current role and number
Verify the contact details through the agreed person or authorised company route. Include a department or extension where needed. Avoid publishing a personal mobile number when the reference has only agreed to use a work line.
Keep the purpose limited
Use the details for the agreed reference request and update them if the person withdraws. Do not reuse the information as a marketing audience. Latest Mailing Database does not establish a reference relationship simply by supplying a business contact record.
