Write a Year-End Marketing Review That Improves the Next Plan

A year-end review should explain what happened in your programme and what the next team decision should be. External industry figures can provide context, but they cannot replace a record of the work and outcomes.

Reconcile the activity and the records

List the campaigns and substantial changes with their dates and owners. Check that reporting periods and definitions agree. Separate missing data from a genuine zero and keep major measurement changes visible.

Review outcomes after costs

Use suitable business outcomes and include relevant production, tool and response costs. Explain attribution limits. A campaign can generate attention while failing its commercial purpose, and a useful service message may not be intended to produce an immediate sale.

Keep the operational lessons

Record delivery failures, confusing offers, unanswered enquiries and tasks that depended on one person. Identify which problems need a process change rather than a new creative idea. Include work that maintained reliability even when it did not produce a headline result.

Make the next plan smaller and clearer

Choose the priorities to continue, revise or stop. Assign the first corrections and review dates. Keep source notes so the next year’s review can assess decisions consistently instead of rebuilding a presentation from disconnected dashboard screenshots.
