Test an Online Service with Little Cash and Clear Limits

A service can sometimes be tested with limited cash when you already have the skills and equipment. It still takes time and a reliable delivery process. Start with a task you can complete rather than a claim that an online method creates income without investment.

Choose an existing capability

Consider a bounded writing, design, reporting or administrative task you can demonstrate. Keep the offer specific about the input and output. Do not sell specialist work you cannot yet perform simply because a tool appears to automate it.

Define the first delivery

State what is included, what the customer must provide and how completion is checked. Agree on payment and revision terms through an appropriate process. A clear scope helps avoid spending many unpaid hours resolving assumptions that should have been discussed first.

Account for real costs

Include internet access, software, fees, support and your own time. Use permitted free tools only when they meet the task and handling requirements. Avoid an opportunity that requires paying an unknown recruiter or moving money as a condition of supposed work.

Review a small completed project

Compare the effort and customer need with the amount received and the cost to deliver. Use the findings to revise the service. Expand only when the process is workable, rather than treating one sale or an optimistic forecast as proof of a sustainable business.
