US Mailing Lists: Match Business and Consumer Data to the Offer
A US mailing-list selection should reflect the offer and the audience it serves. A business campaign and a consumer campaign need different criteria, even when both are delivered as a spreadsheet of contact records.
Choose the audience in plain language
For business data, name the organisation type and professional role. For consumer data, state appropriate personal-audience criteria that can actually be supported. Do not treat a company contact as a consumer segment without a separate basis for that use.
Define the location field
Specify state, locality or other service coverage and explain whether it concerns a workplace or another address. Keep postal and email use requirements distinct. A contact selected for one channel should not automatically be activated on another.
Review commercial-email requirements
The FTC’s CAN-SPAM guidance applies to commercial email and does not create a blanket exemption for business-to-business messages. Review the sender identity, message and opt-out process for the actual campaign. Other relevant requirements and platform policies still need consideration.
Keep the delivery review specific
Agree the required columns and quantity definition, then inspect the selection against them. Retain source context and exclusions through import. A large country-level total does not demonstrate that the chosen records fit an individual campaign or will generate sales.
